Daily loss and maximum loss, in plain words

The two limits that can stop your simulated account are worked out differently. Here's how, with figures.

Maximum loss

This is the limit for the whole account. On 2-Step and 1-Step it is fixed: on a $100,000 account with a 10% maximum loss, the limit is $90,000 and it doesn't rise when you make a profit, until a payout.

On Instant it trails: it follows the highest closed balance. On a $25,000 account with 5%, if the balance reaches $26,000, the limit rises to $24,750 and doesn't go back down, except after a payout.

Daily loss

It is worked out again every trading day, from the day's reference. The percentage applies to the account's capital, not to the current balance.

On a $100,000 2-Step account with 5%, if you start the day at $102,000, the day's limit is $97,000.

What "on equity" means

Limits are measured on equity, which is the balance plus or minus open positions. An open position with a large loss can hit a limit even if you haven't closed anything.

The values for each product

  • 2-Step: 5% daily and 10% maximum, fixed limit.
  • 1-Step: 3% daily and 6% maximum, fixed limit.
  • Instant: 2% daily and 5% maximum, trailing limit.
